Update on the service of our Canon A620

We just received an SMS yesterday that our Canon A620 will be finally available for pick up this coming Friday afternoon, September 4, 2009. Exactly two months after we left our unit to be serviced by them.  We left our A620 with them on July 4, 2009.  We have the paper to prove this.  You have to read my post on our frustration over Canon’s Service Center here in the Philippines to understand where this post is coming from.

excited to get our Canon A620 back!!!

While we love Canon’s digital cameras, their local service is of a different notch altogether, to say the least.  Whenever we ask for a decent explanation why the delay, they cannot really give us any concrete answer.

Our camera was functioning all right when we left it with them, save for its LCD, which got wet in the shores of our trip in Boracay last June.  It first got its first dip in the pool of Astoria hotel and it went back to life a couple of weeks after.  Clearly, chlorine can be tolerable for this great camera but the salty water of Boracay was just too much.  This is pretty much expected to happen.  We just wanted to have it fixed because it is really one great camera and it has been with us since 2005.

My hope is that their service will improve and Canon users do not have to put up with such crappy service.  No matter how great your product is, if good customer service is not provided, then it pretty much amounts to giving the brand a bad name.  Here’s something Canon Philippines should look into, coming from a lover of Canon cameras. :-)
