After having heard of the crazy deal AirPhil Express Promo have during the still ongoing 21st Philippine Travel Mart in Megatrade Hall in Megamall, we decide to grab a hold of it. We were planning to go visit our father in law who is based in Davao. But the rates that we are getting from all the other local airlines these past few months are a little too steep for us to avail of. There are 11 of us traveling. So you can just imagine the expenses that will incur. It has been a few years since we last saw the FIL and since he has a lot of things to take care of and has been sick the previous years, we really meant to visit him soon. Then this promo came.

We first heard about AirPhil Express’s promo fare of P88 from friends over at Plurk and we just thought we needed to check that one out. Last night, the husband fell in line for 4 hours just to end up leaving without being able to book but was given a priority number that the AirPhil Express people will accommodate first the next day. We went to back to Megatrade Hall today and had to line up again for another 4 hours. It would not have been that long if they accommodated us first, which was only but fair. The thing is they divided the counter in such a way that half of the booking agents were serving us (who were supposedly under the priority line) and another half for those who just came in today. The thing about here is, the people who came in “just today” were being booked ahead of us and we (priority line) are slowly losing all the good travel dates. It was totally defeating the purpose why they gave us the priority number last night to begin with.

It was not until my second appeal to the lady in the organizers’s booth that the supervisor-in-charge of Air Phil Express nudged. While we appreciated that, it really just did not make sense why we had to stand in line for so many hours. It was okay if the situation was rational, which is definitely not. At first the security was defending AirPhil Express that they are not serving newcomers. But we are not blind not to see those E-Tickets being served and the payments from the transactions coming from the “newcomers”. That was the time that I went right back to the organizers’s booth and told her that it is just not fair, appealed again and then the issue got resolved.

Despite this hassle, I will have to commend their staff who are courteous despite the crazy lines and hundreds of people who are flocking their booth. I’d say, they really are built for the sales career they are in. We were not able to have lunch until 4 in the afternoon and I saw them just having a burger beside each of their workstations, stealing a bite every so often. While no person, a company, for this matter, is perfect, I just hope that even as we are pleased about this current promotion that AirPhil Express is making available for the people, they make sure that they don’t commit the same mistake the next time they hold an event of this nature.

A good friend warned us against riding cabs in Malaysia because cab drivers take advantage of tourists. That is something that we hope we will not have to witness. Instead of riding a cab, we are encouraged to take the bus or the train. At first we were hopeful we would find a company like that of miami car rental and maybe we could drive ourselves around the area.

We will soon have our passport renewed and later in the next few months, we hope to be able to decide on which hotel to stay in Kuala Lumpur in September. While we know that the travel is not soon yet, we hope to get this issue out of our hair. We’d rather book early than find ourselves not knowing where to go when we go to a strange place.

Reviewing hotels in a foreign land is not exactly the easiest. You encounter different sounding names like isla mujeres hotels and there is no way but to jot it down, else you forget. Then there’s the proximity issues. Proximity to the place you plan to go around and visit, etc. So please if you happen to know of a good hotel that is close to the city proper of KL, please leave us a link and will check it out. Thanks in advance!
